Friday Finds: Night Owl Clock

I've featured clocks by Decoylab before (see here), but this owl one reminded me of all good things, like 1950s childrens books (you know how they have a limited color palette) and vintage wallpaper.

On a unrelated note, I just finished this book, Julia Child's memoir of her early married life in France. As a Francophile and total recipe hoarder, this book had so many things I loved: a sense of humor, a transport back to my own days as a nanny in Provence, and of course, food. I read this book after finishing Julie and Julia last year, which I also loved, and you can read more about here. I am so excited for the movie to come out. Julia Child plus Meryl Streep plus Amy Adams? What could be better?

(Belated) Friday Find: Tote by Pouch

When I was growing up, my grandmother the notorious pack rat had the biggest stash of fabric I had (and have ever) seen. Much of it was from the 60s and 70s, and this purse reminds me of digging through her pile to make a sundress or some doll clothes. I bet I can even predict what this tote would feel like.

Friday Finds: California Letterpress Print

Dutch Door Press is an amazing letterpress studio based out of San Francisco that is doing a 50-state print set called "Birds and Blooms." I'm enamored with California, above.

Graflex Vintage Camera

I am a complete sucker for tag sales and any sort of art/craft apparatus. So even though I do not have the faintest idea how to use it, I had to snap up this vintage camera on Saturday. It came in an amazing old case with the tripod, plates to expose the film, some expired but unexposed film, and a light meter.

The only thing I know is that it is a Graflex Speed Graphic model. It has all sorts of view finders, gears, and other bells and whistles but I'm not sure what any of them do yet. Do I need a black hood? A flash? No idea.

I did find a Graflex website and Flickr pool--- the results are so stunning! And apparently it's the same model that Weegee used. I'm hoping I can learn how to use this even though I'm still struggling with my Diana.

I'm going to continue doing more research, but if anyone has any information or advice, it would be much appreciated! It's sort of my fantasy to go camping out in rural New Mexico this summer and get all Ansel Adams on the landscape.

Friday Finds: Origami Dress

I used to be a person who would only wear black, beige, and denim. The longer I live in a desert, though, the more I long for big, bright color. I now understand why Mexican folk art has such an intense palette.

Friday Finds: Boston Love Gocco Print

I was so excited to find/purchase this Boston Love Gocco print by Art Shark Designs, since Billy and I met and fell in love in that fair city. It features the duck pond at the Boston Public Garden and the Hancock tower in the background, and it makes me all sorts of sentimental.

She has cities from New York to San Francisco, each beautifully done.

I found this plate at my local thrift store yesterday. I love the poppies and colors, and I think once we finally purchase a house it will inspire some kitchen paint choices. This is the starter for the plate wall I've been wanting to do for so long!

Friday Finds: Paint by Number Skirt

I've been obsessed with paint-by-number the last few months--- both vintage ones like this and kits that I want to try myself. Sure it's a questionable aesthetic, but it's fun all the same. I love a little vintage kitsch.

For all these reasons, I love this wrap around skirt in a fun paint-by-number print! It's from Katinka Pinka. The Sea Within also had a purse in the same print awhile back, and I can speak to the amazing quality of her handbags--- I've bought two in recent months!

Friday Finds: Pocket Alpaca

Hello, my sweets. I miss blogging and I really, really want to do regular posts again. But life has just not been cooperating. However, life has become more manageable, and I am hoping that over the next few weeks I'll be able to make a slow return.

And now back to our regularly scheduled Friday Find. I almost showed you an amazing vintage find, but I am holding back because I may actually buy it this time! Instead, here's something else I'm enamored with:A pocket alpaca from Daga Design. I also love the penguins, which are now on sale.

Belated Friday Finds: Vintage Footed Coffee Mugs

My insanely hectic day job has kept me from blogging regularly, but I'm back, baby! A happy Saturday and a belated Friday Find to all.

I always sort of regret sharing vintage finds on here, because inevitably someone else buys them. But these vintage coffee mugs are just too good not to share. I love the aqua and white and the midcentury modern rooster graphic. If I didn't have such a fondness for cupping my hands around a warm cup of tea (the footed bottom messes with that habit), I'd snap these up in an instant.
