Miss Rumphius
, by Barbara Cooney, was one of my favorite books as a child. It's a story about an "eccentric" woman who travels the world, becomes a librarian, retires, and ends up making it a more beautiful place by planting lupines.

I think I want to become Miss Rumphius someday. Perhaps I'm working on it right now. But until then, I can only photograph the lupines near my family's Vermont home (and I see some Gocco'd lupines in the future.). Almost as wonderful.

oh my goodness I love this book. loooove it! I want to travel the world then live in a little house by the ocean surrounded by lupines! I got to meet Barbara Cooney when I was younger and had her sign my copy of Miss Rumphius! thanks for sharing :)
I need to check this book out...it sounds lovely!
I love lupines, too. Interestingly they are NOT in my garden! I will have to work harder to be a Miss Rumphius. Good luck on your quest!
